The New York Transit Museum has a fascinating and unique history. Court Street Station in downtown Brooklyn, once home to the HH shuttle train, opened in 1936 but closed ten years later due to low ridership. In 1976 the station re-opened as the New York Transit Exhibit, and today is home to the New York Transit Museum, the largest museum in North America devoted to public transportation. Join Education Department staff to discover our 46-year history through archival images, discussion, and a virtual tour.
We are not booking virtual events or parties at this time.
Planning a remote holiday party, staff happy hour, or birthday party? Celebrate in subway-style! Museum staff will take you and up to 30 guests on a Zoom tour of the Museum, located in a 1936 subway station, followed by an activity of your choosing. Visit some of our favorite vintage train cars and hear stories about fascinating events and people in NYC history. Then, have fun with an activity that's right for your group.
The New York Transit Museum is dedicated to telling and preserving the stories of mass transportation – extraordinary engineering feats, workers who labored in the tunnels over 100 years ago, communities that were drastically transformed, and the ever-evolving technology, design, and ridership of a system that runs 24 hours a day, every day of the year.
Opening hours reflect the group tour schedule (Wed-Fri) and the Birthday Experience schedule (Sat-Sun). Please visit our website for the general public hours.
