Bird Conservancy of the Rockies offers custom experiential learning opportunities through on-site field trips and in-class outreach programs designed to meet the needs of any group. Hands-on activities, 21st century skill-building, career discussions, and outdoor exploration create an engaging learning environment that uses birds to create a deeper appreciation for wildlife, habitats and ecosystems. Our programs utilize inquiry based curriculum that emphasizes critical thinking and student centered learning while teaching topics such as migration, adaptations, habitats, bird biology, bird banding, and the water cycle.
Field trips at our site will immerse students in nature and help them develop a curiosity and passion which will eventually lead to conservation action in their own futures and communities. They will learn skills like bird identification, binocular and field guide use, water testing and hypothesis building, invasive weed identification in addition to general conservation and sustainability with the goal of an increased understanding of scientific tools and topics.
Bird Conservancy’s reverse field trips — what we call our school outreach programs — are conducted at your site and can be a follow-up program or pre-trip program for schools attending field trips, or a stand-alone program for schools that do not attend a field trip. Reverse field trips are designed to increase students’ understanding of science, math, geography, art and language arts by using birds as the context for learning.
