The Mobile Latimer Lab is a new initiative by LLHM in partnership with BioBus. Mirroring the ideals of the Tinker Lab, the key educational program at LLHM, this mobile science lab enables the museum to continue serving activities in STEAM and Black History, at a wide range of locations including schools and community centers.
On the bus LLHM combines two trips, "The Latimer Tour" & "Paper Circuits" for a 45-min workshop filled with fun hands-on activities. Participants will be able to create illuminated circuit creations and decode clues while learning about the museum and the life of Lewis Latimer through storytelling and visual imagery. Bring Mobile Latimer Lab to your educational space today!
Lewis H. Latimer (1848-1928) was an African American inventor whose innovations in designing carbon filaments ushered in the age of electric light. Latimer was the son of fugitive slaves, a self-taught master draftsman, an expert on patent law, a poet, and painter--in short, a Renaissance man. The historic Victorian home of Lewis Latimer stands now as a testament to this talented and gracious man.
