Virtual Behind the Screen Tour

Description

Behind the Screen Tour
20-60 minutes, Grades 4 - 12, family groups, adults, seniors, and university classes

Students learn about how moving images are made, marketed, and shown, while discovering the many careers open to them in the moving-image industries. Under the guidance of a Museum educator, students actively explore and discuss artifacts and artworks, and experiment with hands-on interactive experiences and demonstrations. This tour serves as an ideal introduction to the Museum and its collection, and discussions can be focused to address the class’ specific curricular needs.

Programs can be offered virtually, with an educator visiting your google classroom or zoom group. You can also request a google classroom or zoom meeting set up by the Museum's education department. Kindly include the number of participants for our records.

The minimum is 5 people per group. The maximum is 100 students for the entire session. Virtual visitors may schedule for fewer but must pay for group minimum.

Museum of the Moving Image is the country's only museum dedicated to the art, history, technique, and technology of the moving image in all its forms. Embracing a wide range of subjects, from nineteenth century optical toys to the latest in digital art, the Museum explores every phase of the production, promotion, and exhibition of moving images. Students visiting the museum can take part in an interactive tour of movie making history in the core exhibition "Behind the Screen," a visit to "The Jim Henson Exhibition," and/or join a variety of multimedia workshops and screening programs.

We are thrilled to announce a full portfolio of fieldtrips and media workshops, both in-person and virtual, adaptable to any age group and subject matter. The listings below will prioritize our in-person options as we rebuild our education and museum programming. Please email education@movingimage.org for virtual availability and options!
