We recognize that not every class can visit the Teaching Garden in person. Field trip slots are limited and there are many other barriers to getting students out of the classroom. We want to reach as many students as possible so this season we are offering our "Meet the Farmer" zoom sessions to all schools!
Classes will take place over zoom and are approximately 30-45 minutes long.
One of our farmers will zoom into your classroom and give you and your students a brief description of the Teaching Garden and what it's like to be a farmer. This will be followed by an open Q&A where students can ask our farmers all of their farm and garden questions.
GrowNYC's Governors Island Teaching Garden is a 21,000 square foot urban farm that aims to engage, excite, and educate its visitors in all aspects of urban farming. Field trips are available from May-June & October-November for NYC students (K-12), who have the opportunity to plant, water, harvest, and taste the garden's wide array of vegetables, herbs, and fruits.
Please Note: Field trips to Governors Island Teaching Garden require a 10-15 minute ferry ride that departs promptly at 10:00am and 11:00am from the Battery Maritime Building. The garden is a 15-to-20-minute walk from the ferry.
