The Living Coast Discovery Center is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit zoo and aquarium located on the San Diego Bay National Wildlife Refuge. Founded in 1987 as the Chula Vista Nature Interpretive Center, we have served the San Diego community for over 30 years. The Living Coast Discovery Center is home to many native San Diego species including sharks, fish, lizards, and birds of prey. Students will have the opportunity to visit our animal ambassadors and explore the Sweetwater Marsh through trail exploration.

While there is no café or food sources onsite, students will have their own designated lunch space as well as a storage unit to hold their belongings. The storage area is not insulated, so we encourage students to pack their lunches in an insulated lunch box or bring non-perishable lunches. Many teachers prefer to bring a cooler to store all the students lunches, which can easily be placed in the storage shed for quick access. The lunch spaces are outdoors and have shade coverings.
The Living Coast has both women’s and men’s restrooms. The women’s room has 5 stalls and a diaper change table. The men’s room has 2 urinals and 3 stalls. Both restrooms have 2 sinks, a hand dryer, and a paper towel dispenser. There are also 2 single person restrooms available for use upon request. We have 1 water bottle refill station on-site.
Our cancellation policy varies by program. Programs occur rain or shine. $100 no show/no call fee. Fees may apply to rescheduling programs. Please visit our website for program specific cancellation fees (www.thelivingcoast.org)
Shuttle Policy: The Living Coast shuttle must be arranged for groups arriving by carpool or walking. $50 fee if you require use of the shuttle during non-operating hours. The shuttle operates Wednesday - Sunday, 10 am - 5 pm. For reservations, the shuttle will only operate at the reserved times. Participants arriving by personal car must park in the parking lot and wait for the shuttle or school bus to take them in (teachers must coordinate this with bus drivers). No exceptions.
Payment: Memberships, groupons, coupons, or other deals do not apply towards educational program fees. No exceptions. One payment accepted for group at time of check-in. If paying by cash, please collect ahead of time and have your group totals ready at check-in.
