Description

There is no better way to learn about history than experiencing it and we invite you to travel back in time to the 19th century to discover a community of long ago.

Our school group tours complement the State of New Jersey’s Social Studies Curriculum and though geared toward fourth grade education can be tailored for all grade levels as well as adult organizations, summer camps, and special needs programs.

Attendees will be introduced to The Howell Works Company, a thriving and prosperous iron producing community during the Industrial Revolution. They will learn about various facets of life during this time period including commercial, domestic, and social aspects. A look into the people, their everyday life, and the challenges they faced will provide an insight into the impact of the Industrial Revolution in New Jersey.

The Historic Village at Allaire welcomes 7,000 tour participants yearly and our spring calendar fills up quickly.

Scout Programs

Patch Program

The Historic Village offers a scouting patch for Boy and Girl Scouts. The patch program gives scouts the opportunity to explore what life was like in the past by interacting with our historic interpreters and exploring the historic buildings. The patch program for Allaire was designed and created by a Farmingdale, NJ resident in 2004 working towards her Gold Award and was revamped in 2016. The program is a questionnaire, scavenger hunt throughout the village.

There are two choices to participate in this program: guided tour or a self-guided tour.

Guided tours are offered Monday through Friday and can be conducted anytime between 12PM to 4PM. These are $14 per scout, parent, and sibling.

Self guided tours can be any time between 11am to 4pm on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays during our open season. Weekends are recommended as that is when most of our historic buildings are open.
The self-guided tour is $9 per and $5 per parent and sibling over the age of 4.

During our open season, which is April to November, the village is only open Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
